NLP- Success and the “as if” frame

Hi,

Just been reading the wonderful new book by David R Hamilton PhD, “How your mind can heal your body”. In the book he mentions an experiment conducted by Harvard University, whereby  volunteers who fell in the age range of 70 and above where put into an environment recreated to reproduce 1959. They played the music from the era, furnished everything as it would be in 1959 and had the volunteers act “as if” they were at that moment in time.

Well guess what? The volunteers  got physiologically younger! What does that mean? They actually measured as taller, developed increased mental functions, even their eyesight improved!

So back to the title of this article: NLP -Success and the “as if ” frame. In NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming), one of the things we ask people to do is act “as if”. So, for example if you want to run a successful business, act “as if” you are running a successful business.

How can you do that?

  • How would you dress?
  • How would you stand?
  • How would you talk?
  • How would you think?

Now, do it.

Step into the role as if it is your reality. It might feel uncomfortable at first, any new behavior often does, but very soon you will get used to it.

If acting “as if”, can help people become younger both mentally and physically, imagine how it would impact you if you apply it to becoming more successful.

By the way, David Hamilton is one of the speakers at the EFT Masterclass Conference 2010. The conference this year is really melding cutting edge speakers in the field of Science with EFT’ers.

All the best,
